Explanation

Ozonolysis of acetylene (C₂H₂) results in the formation of glyoxal (CHO-CHO). This occurs because the triple bond in acetylene is cleaved by ozone, and the carbon atoms are oxidized. The glyoxal product is then formed from the resulting fragments.
