Explanation

“Magyar” is Finno-Ugric from the Old Hungarian “mogyër”. “Magyar” possibly derived from the name of the most prominent Hungarian tribe, the “Megyer”. The tribal name “Megyer” became “Magyar” in reference to the Hungarian people as a whole.
